Aileen Fitzgerald
Austin, TXAileen Fitzgerald is a self taught artist, nurse, and mother. She would describe her landscapes as atmospheric, meaningful, and grounded. She alternates layers of watered down paint and dry brush technique to create blurred lines with specific points of detail. Her style is reflective of old world impressionism, with a heavy emphasis on light. She used to begin a landscape painting with a scene in mind, but that has changed as she's grown as an artist. She always starts with the sky, and her moods are reflective in the outcome - sometimes you’ll see storm clouds rolling in, rain in the distance, or sunshine spreading from the horizon. The land is created in much of the same manner. As she blends the paint, peaks and valleys naturally arise. Bodies of water appear as lightened areas, and the scene presents itself to her. She has found that building these layers of paint creates an organic landscape, much like nature truly behaves.
Texas Hill Country plays a central role in Aileen Fitzgerald’s art. She often takes drives through its rolling landscapes with her windows down, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere that influences her work so deeply. Her paintings evoke the serenity of these scenes, where oak trees stand proud and soft grasses sway.
Her love for antique sepia photographs also shines through in her technique. By drawing on her inspirations and her own creative style, Aileen creates pieces that radiate contrast and depth. Through this approach with her intuitive process, Aileen Fitzgerald crafts emotionally resonant works that leave a lasting impression. Painting feels like a return to self for Aileen; it’s a chance to connect with the landscapes that first shaped her creativity and to transpose their essence into art that moves the soul.
