Mexico City, MexicoMatera is a self-defined contemporary abstract artist who creates large-format acrylic and mixed media works on canvas. Her methods have evolved over the course of her life, as she started painting as a child. She paints outside so her works are influenced by weather both literally and emotionally, with rain drops and wind altering the course of the painting, as well as her mindset. Her intuitive painting process uses the paint, water, and other materials as a guide and omits any preconception of what the final piece might look like.
Matera’s art is full of raw, organic beauty, drawing viewers into her deeply personal relationship with the natural world. Her outdoor painting sessions allow her to forge a connection with her surroundings as if nature itself contributes to the creation of each piece.
